Shopify's native sales channel apps for Meta, Google, and TikTok each install tracking pixels and server-side conversion tracking with no code required. Install each platform's official app, connect your ad accounts, add a separate GA4 custom pixel if needed, then verify everything is firing using your browser's developer tools and each platform's own test-events tool. An all-in-one tracking app is worth considering only once you need centralized reporting or deeper server-side coverage than native integrations provide.
You don't need to hire a developer or touch a line of code to get real conversion tracking working across Meta, Google, and TikTok on Shopify. Shopify's own native sales channel integrations handle the vast majority of this out of the box. Here's how to set all three up properly, plus how to verify they're actually working.
For each ad platform you use, Shopify offers an official sales channel app: Facebook & Instagram by Meta, Google & YouTube, and TikTok. Each one installs the relevant tracking pixel and, for the platforms that support it, server-side conversion tracking, without requiring custom code. These are the right starting point for the large majority of stores, precisely because they're low-maintenance and Shopify keeps them updated as checkout changes.
In Shopify admin, go to Settings > Apps and sales channels > Add apps, install Facebook & Instagram by Meta, connect your Pixel and ad account, then set Data sharing to Maximum in the app's settings. This turns on both the browser Pixel and server-side Conversions API together, which is the combination Meta recommends.
Install the Google & YouTube sales channel and connect your Google Ads account and Merchant Center. Shopify installs the conversion tracking tag and configures Enhanced Conversions, which sends hashed customer data server-side to improve match rates. If you also want GA4 specifically, go to Settings > Customer events, click Add custom pixel, and choose the Google Analytics 4 template, then enter your GA4 Measurement ID. This is a separate step from the Google Ads sales channel, and it's easy to skip by mistake, so don't assume installing one automatically covers the other.
TikTok follows a near-identical pattern to Meta: add the TikTok sales channel, connect your TikTok Ads Manager account, and Shopify installs the TikTok Pixel along with server-side event tracking. As with Meta, keep browser and server tracking both enabled rather than choosing one over the other.
Installing an app is not the same as confirming it works. Open your live store, open your browser's developer tools, and go to the Network tab. Filter for "pixel" or "analytics," then browse your store as a customer, viewing a product, adding it to cart, and starting checkout. You should see outgoing requests to each platform you've connected (Meta, Google, TikTok) as you go. Then, in each platform's own event testing tool (Meta's Test Events, for example), confirm those same actions are arriving and that Browser and Server events are deduplicating rather than double-counting.
A useful early warning sign: if Google Analytics shows meaningfully different numbers than Google Ads for the same period, or if any platform's purchase events show zero conversion value, that's a signal to go back and check the setup before trusting any of the reported numbers.
Running three separate native integrations works well until you want a single, centralized view, or until you need Conversions-API-style server-side coverage for a platform whose native integration doesn't fully support it yet. At that point, no-code, all-in-one tracking apps that manage GA4, Meta, Google Ads, and TikTok pixels from a single install, several exist on the Shopify App Store, become worth considering. They typically bundle CAPI-style server-side support across all three platforms and centralize reporting, at the cost of an additional monthly app fee on top of what's otherwise free through native integrations.
After setup, give it a few days, then compare each platform's reported conversions against your actual Shopify order count for the same period. Some gap is normal and expected, for reasons covered in how attribution windows and view-through credit work. What you're watching for is a gap that's wildly larger than expected, roughly double your real orders, for example, which usually points to a duplicate, unmanaged pixel install still running somewhere rather than a fundamental tracking failure.
Yes. Shopify's native sales channel apps for Meta (Facebook & Instagram by Meta), Google (Google & YouTube), and TikTok each install the relevant tracking pixel and, where supported, server-side tracking, entirely through Shopify's admin with no custom code required.
Yes. The Google & YouTube sales channel covers Google Ads conversion tracking, but GA4 requires a separate custom pixel added under Settings > Customer events using the Google Analytics 4 template and your GA4 Measurement ID.
Open your store, open your browser's developer tools to the Network tab, filter for "pixel" or "analytics," and browse as a customer to confirm requests fire to each connected platform. Then check each platform's own test tool (like Meta's Test Events) to confirm the events arrive and deduplicate correctly between browser and server sources.
Once you want a single centralized view across platforms, or need more complete server-side coverage than a specific native integration offers. All-in-one apps bundle CAPI-style tracking for multiple platforms in one install, at the cost of an added monthly fee on top of what's free through native integrations.
